Face me
The face has the most extensive muscle structure in the human body; 43 of these muscles are directly linked to our emotions. Humans are capable of making 10,000 unique facial expressions. Even with this in mind, we have developed the ability to interpret and understand facial expressions at lightning speeds. But it is not always as evident as one may think. To sense ones comfort or discomfort can be hidden amongst a mirage of revised rituals.
Maybe this is why we find portraits so interesting, because we are trying to understand the depths of action, reaction and the residing feelings amongst it all.
But sometimes you cannot control every muscle in your face, and movements are unearthed without filter. Those are the moments which truly determine the self. The truth is always there in some form or another. It hides in a cheeky smile or a grim stare. You cannot control these autonomous functions. Thoughts are transformed into reality, and the uncontrollable is sometimes the most authentic.
